Data centre cable restraint / Trefoil cable cleats: what to confirm for a data centre

A trefoil cable arrangement is one part of the restraint specification. Match the cable geometry, product, support, wrap and spacing to the applicable evidence before treating a BAND-FAST arrangement as suitable for a project.

Cable formation is part of the test configuration

The laboratory reports summarised in our technical register describe trefoil cable formation. They identify test objects, cable details, support arrangements and fixed-cleat centres. A result from that rig should not be transferred to a flat, single-cable or different bundle arrangement simply because the same band width appears in a catalogue.

Record the outside diameter of the actual cable, the number of cables, how the formation is maintained and any jacket or protection requirements. Use the project drawings to identify transitions, changes of direction and different support arrangements that need their own review.

Keep these inputs together

  • Cable: outside diameter, formation and relevant cable specification.
  • Fault duty: the required current quantity and value, with peak and RMS distinguished, and the specified duration.
  • Support: ladder or tray details, rung and slot dimensions, mounting arrangement and available clearance.
  • Restraint: product reference, clip, wrap method, restraint centres and the specified liner or bracket.
  • Installation: compatible tool, settings and complete manufacturer procedure.

These details describe an assembly. A part number or band length by itself does not describe the full tested arrangement.

Use the calculator as a selection aid

The cable cleat calculator collects cable diameter, formation, ladder type, spacing and fault-duty inputs. Use millimetres for cable dimensions. Check the current quantity requested by the calculator against the engineer’s specification rather than entering an unqualified kA value.

Review any returned product against the actual installation and supporting report. A calculator result does not replace a project engineer’s design review. If a report, bracket or arrangement needs confirmation, retain that question with the enquiry rather than substituting a similar product or a higher number from a different rig.

Choose evidence before confirming spacing

Our report register includes different fixed-cleat centres and separate wrap, liner and mounting arrangements. Those are reported test conditions, not a universal spacing recommendation. Do not increase restraint spacing or transfer a current result between arrangements without the applicable evidence.

For procurement, keep the selected product and clip, cable formation, spacing, liner or bracket and installation procedure together in one schedule. Include the complete report reference so the project team can review the same evidence. Read the short-circuit evidence guide and original report register before requesting configuration confirmation.

Source documents and project support

This guide explains the selection questions using the existing source material, BAND-FAST Cable Cleat Solutions brochure (PDF) and laboratory report register. Read the complete documents for the exact product and arrangement. It introduces no new performance rating or installation approval.
